Yes, both the original tray and second tray can be filled with different media types or sizes and you can select which tray you wish to print from using your printers driver settings.

Hi, Unfortunately the HP 550 Sheet Paper Feeder doesn't add automatic duplexing capabilities to the HP Color LaserJet Pro M452nw. The HP 550 Sheet Paper Feeder only adds an additional 550 sheets to your printers paper capacity.

Does this 'Tray 3' become an optional tray to hold better paper for example and therefore select this tray when wanting to print on better quality paper?

This item allows you to add an additional tray to either increase the volume of the same media (up to 850 sheets in total) or to add an additional media type to improve your flexibility, for example a different media thickness, coating or size etc. This will accept custom sizes from 100mm x 148mm to 216mm x 356mm and weights of 60 to 163gsm (up to 176gsm with postcards, up to 150gsm Glossy media)

The HP 550 Sheet Paper Feeder (CF404A) is an additional tray which you can add to your M452, M377 or M477 printer. It does not replace any existing trays.

The only extra printing accessory for the HP LaserJet Pro M477fdw is the single 550 Sheet Paper Feeder.
